Biography
There are a lot of Skinnys in music. This is the actual one.
Dawson Skinner is a Sydney composer, arranger and producer with a background in composition. He writes for screen, concert and choir, arranges for artists, and has been writing scores since well before his first release.
He doesn’t stick to one style: pop, soul, synth, rock, metal, folk and classical all come out of the same studio, and you can hear the Beatles, Frank Ocean, Linkin Park and Steely Dan in all of it.
His artist project, The Actual Skinny, is where the songs go. Between September 2025 and July 2026 he released six singles, six music videos and the debut album Carry On, a record about pushing through. The songs keep coming back to movement: stuck in traffic on “Get Through”, riding the trains home on “Find My”, waiting at the airport on “Back Around”.
He writes, produces and arranges in Logic Pro at Albert St Studios in Strathfield, has played live in Newtown, and works with a small, steady crew.
